Meet the Team

Our team are highly trained in many areas and are happy to look after your general health and more specific requirements.  We are dedicated to listening to you, discussing your physical and mental concerns in an honest and open fashion. We will provide you with up to date, evidence-based medical advice to make informed choices when it comes to managing your health.

​For many years our practice has been involved in the education of medical students and students may visit the practice to observe consultations as part of their curriculum.  We always advise patients in advance if a student is present and will only invite a student to observe your consultation with your full permission

Dr. Jean Lowry

Doctor

Dr Jean is a graduate of Trinity College Dublin. Jean completed her specialised
training in General Practice with the TCD Specialist Training Programme in 2019.
She joined the practice in 2021.


Jean’s special areas of interest include:

Doctor

He is a graduate of National University of Galway completing his specialist training
through the Midlands area scheme in 2016. He joined the practice in the same
year.

Dr. Conor Lynam

Doctor

Dr Conor is a graduate of National University of Galway. He completed his
specialised training in General Practice with the Western Specialist Training
Programme in 2011. Conor joined the practice in the same year.
He has worked as a tutor for University of Galway and University of Limerick, and he
is currently a GP trainer with the midlands GP Scheme.


Conor's special areas of interest include:

  • Musculoskeletal medicine

  • General Medicine

  • Paediatrics

Dr. Jane O'Neill

Doctor

Dr. Jane O’Neill is a graduate of National University of Galway. She completed her
specialised training in General Practice with the Midlands area Specialist Training
Programme in 2003. Jane joined the practice in the same year.

Dr. Anne Brophy

Doctor

Dr Anne is a graduate of National University of Galway. She completed her
specialised General Practice training in Cambridge in 2000. She joined the practice
in 2007.

Dr. Michele Culligan

Doctor

Dr Michele is a graduate of University College Dublin, and she completed her
specialist training scheme in Perth, Western Australia. She is a practising GP for 34
years and loves all aspects of general practice. She joined the practice in 2009.


Michele’s special areas of interest include :

  • General medicine

  • Geriatric care

  • Chronic Disease Management

Dr. Catherine Thornton

Doctor

Dr Catherine Thornton qualified from Queen’s University Belfast with First Class
Honours in 2012. She then joined the Midlands Specialist training scheme in General
Practice. Cate has attained Higher Diplomas in Obstetrics and Women’s Health,
Child Health and Musculoskeletal medicine. She joined the practice in 2021.

 

Cate’s special areas of interest include:

  • Female Health

  • Pediatrics

  • Fitting of Long-Acting Reversible Contraceptive Devices.

Dr. Loyola Lowry

Doctor

Dr. Loyola graduated in University College Galway. Loyola completed her specialised training in General Practice in Manchester. During this time, she took a special interest

In women’s health medicine and she has carried that interest throughout her career in general practice. Dr's Loyola and Tony Lowry founded the practice at Newtown Medical Centre in 1982.

Dr Tony is a graduate of University of Galway. Tony completed his specialised
training in General Practice in Manchester, UK. Dr’s Tony and Loyola Lowry founded
the practice at Newtown Medical Centre in 1982.

Dr. Tracey Onwasigwe

Doctor

Dr Tracey graduated from the University of Debrecen, Hungary in 2015 and
completed her specialist training in General Practice with the Midlands scheme in
2024.

Dr. Brona Walsh

Doctor

​

​Dr Brona graduated from Queen’s University Belfast in 2016, having previously
qualified as a physiotherapist from University College Dublin in 2008. Brona
completed the Mid Leinster Specialist Programme in General Practice in 2023. She
has attained a Professional Certificate in Clinical Dermatology (2022) and a Diploma
in Women's Health (2023). She has completed the ICGP Certificate of Contraception
and the Advanced Certificate in LARC (IUCD & Subdermal) in 2022 and 2023
respectively. Brona joined the practice in 2024.

Meet our Nurses

Audrey Finneran

Nurse

​

Audrey trained in General Nursing through National University Hospital Galway
qualifying in 2003. She is a qualified midwife and has almost 20 years’ experience in
hospital Intensive Care treatment. Audrey joined the practice in 2021.


As well as routine and acute patient care, Audrey’s special interests include:

  • Health Promotion

  • Diabetes Management

  • Asthma management

  • Phlebotomy

Lorraine Murray

Nurse

​

Lorraine graduated from TUS Athlone in 2018 with a BSc 1 st Class Hons in General
nursing. She has experience in hospital nursing on acute medical wards with
specific focus on renal dialysis and palliative care. After the challenges of the
COVID-19 pandemic, Lorraine attained a master’s in occupational environmental
health and safety at NUIG, simultaneously working as an Occupational Health Nurse
in the food Agri and medical device industry. Lorraine joined the team in Newtown
Medical in 2023.


As well as routine and acute patient care, Lorraine’s special interests include:

Deirdre Farrell

Nurse

​

​Deirdre trained as a General Nurse in Hertfordshire , England qualifying in 2001.
She has more than 10 years’ experience working as a practice nurse and joined
Newtown Medical Centre in 2021.


As well as routine and acute patient care, Deirdre’s special interests include:

  • Women’s Health

  • Diabetes Management

  • Wound Care

Anna Wrobel

Nurse

​

Anna graduated from the Medical University of Lodz, Poland in 1996. Her nursing
experience includes hospital work in Lodz specialising in the care of cardiac and
stroke patients. and on general wards caring for patients with chronic disease
management and tissue and wound care.
Anna worked in the nursing home sector in Ireland for 12 years before joining our
practice in 2016.


As well as routine and acute patient care, Anna’s special interests include:

  • Chronic Disease Management

  • Wound and Tissue Care

  • Childhood Immunisations

  • Diabetes management

Delia Connell

Nurse

​

Delia graduated in General Nursing from St. Vincent’s University Hospital in 1981
with a further postgraduate qualification in Intensive Care. Her nursing experience
includes time in Irish and International hospitals working in Acute, general surgical
and Intensive Care and then time in industry working with Guinness Group in
employee general practice and occupational health. Delia joined the practice in 2016.


As well as routine and acute patient care, Delia’s special interests include:

  • Family Planning

  • Childhood Immunisations

  • Travel Vaccinations

  • Wound Care

  • Phlebotomy

Imelda Nolan

Nurse

Imelda trained in General Nursing through Tus Nursing School, Athlone where she
also completed a Higher Diploma in General Practice. She has 16 years’ experience
working in General Practice at Newtown Medical Centre.


As well as routine and acute patient care, Imelda’s special interests include:

  • Diabetes Management

  • Women’s Health

  • Travel Vaccination

  • Childhood Immunisations
